Geography

Bordoy

With its 95 km2, Bordoy is the biggest island of the Norduroyggjar, and is characterized by high headlands (bard), to which Bordoy owes its name. Klaksvik, with 4,600 inhabitants, gathers the 80% of the population of the entire Noruryoggjar and has the biggest fishing embankment of all Faeroe Islands.

In 1837, Den Kongelige, administrator of the Royal Monopoly, founded an important office in Klaksvik. Today, the Royal Monopoly has been abolished, and the building has become the main museum of the town.

In 1963, still in Klaksvik, a Catholic cathedral was built.
