History

Periods

Although small and on the very border of Europe, the Faeroe Islands have a history of their own, maybe made of small events, but still with a remarkable individuality that has traced their path through time.

We could start with Grimur Kamban, and go on with Tróndur and Sigmundur Brestisson, Bishop Erlendur and Christoffer and Frederick von Gabel, and finally end with Jòannes Patursson. Those are local personalities for sure, but they have determined, somehow or other, the lives of shepherds and fishermen, who had to deal with a difficult climate, storms, isolation, and the sea.
